I'd like to point out one thing that I noticed regarding the documentary. During the movie I realized that 'Golden Age' of science fiction took place at roughly the same time as the 'Golden Age' of comics (i.e. around the 1940's). Like comic books, science fiction books reflect the fears of the time period regarding science, technology, and just things in general. During the Golden Age of comics, many of the superheroes got their powers by mystical forces from parts of the world that had been largely unexplored by the west and occasionally the scientific engineering of a person. During the 1960's during the comic book's 'Silver Age,' people were more scared of radioactivity and objects from outer space. Now, we are scared of genetic engeneering and thus Spider-man evolved from being bitten by a radioactive spider to a genetically engeneered one. The same is true for science fiction as was shown in the 2nd documentary.
I've taught English in San Diego City Schools for the past 25 years. I've taught at Mann Middle School, Serra High School, Muirlands Middle School, Lincoln High School, and Crawford High School. I currently teach English to freshmen and seniors at Scripps Ranch High School.
I developed and taught English Methods for twenty years at San Diego State University before "retiring" in 2004.
