Pulp Fiction and "Amazing Stories"

"Amazing Stories" was one of the first of the pulp fiction magazines that came on the scene in the 1930s. It featured fabulous science fiction short stories by young writers. The site below is a tribute to Amazing Stories with articles about many of its contributors as well as selected stories. If you click on "Stories", you'll find a story called "Trio," which is a story about cockroaches taking over the world.

Visit the site and let us know what you think!

I like that story. The spider is by far the best character in the story and the last line is stunning.

    SPOILER ALERT

I found it interesting that the spider said that the reason for the ant's insanity was a human disease. The disease called fear. I also found it interesting that it was the spider, who normally is depicted as the power hungry crazy one, is shown as the swift thinking bug who knows what will happen and chooses only to wait out the day when humans destroy themselves.

"Trio" sounds highly believable because there are about 200 million insects for every-human. I have to disagree with Josh Wang(d.fiend), OMG the secret is loose! Anyways I disagree because insects are very smart, they just don't know that they already have the power to take over. If insects were to take over, then people would have to create an alliance with bug-loving birds and bats.
    But how???? The troubles begin!!!

Josh, eventually humans would run out of insecticide and then more would have to be made. However the ants will be able to reproduce faster than the production of insecticide!! Eventually, the ants would become inextinctable (I think that's a word)The ants would keep on muliplying faster than the production of insecticide plus the reproduction of humans together. And then...

(!! WARNING, CONTENT NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE WHO HATE MATH AND FORESHADOWING!!)

200,000,000/40,000=5,000 brains vs. 1!! Or probably even greater because the ratio of ants vs. humans would increase! And that's not including the other insects such as spiders, beetles, cockraoches, bees, etc. Insects will eventually take over!!

    (!!END WARNING!!)

Josh, I still think insects could take over because, imagine if you where in a room, and your super smart. Then all of a sudden 200 million, dumb 5th graders come attacking you. Who would win? That's what I thought.

Besides, Josh, it doesn't have to be brains in order to win.

Imagine you are going to school (I highly doubt that you take insecticide to school) and on your way to.. lets say..Math, thousands of insects jump and crawl on you. Even if you started smacking then, you would get hundreds and hundreds of spider bites, bee stings,etc.. and you would probably die later in the hospital.

As you can see, insects can take over the world!
